Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
An important official commented the incident made him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
