19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, including in that event previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to question if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a final set.

He saved four initial break points in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
